Named iTunes Best New Alternative Artist 2009

Brit indie-poppers Animal Kingdom have made their way into the global public eye with a big nod from iTunes, as they are named official “Best New Alternative Artist” by the music store/site for 2009. Alongside this electronic honor, AK are also featured in the promos for Big Love, HBO’s peek into the polygamist arm of the Mormon faith, and on Los Angeles’s KCRW for the “daily download” portion of the station’s website.
“Bright Lights,” the song HBO selected, is slow and winding, and matches the flowing motion of the Big Love promo, which includes images of the show’s cast falling slowly into unknown black depths.
KCRW picked “Walls of Jericho” for their site, a song that nods to Creedence Clearwater Revival with the opening line, “There’s a bad moon rising,” and swings into a deliciously ethereal and driving melody. Singer Richard Sauberlich’s voice, which is just this side of high, lends itself nicely to the track, contrasting the lower-pitched guitar work.
