amy_farris_20090930aLate Austin violinist and vocalist Amy Farris will be remembered by friends and peers at a special memorial show in Los Angeles Sunday, November 8th at McCabe’s, the guitar shop and performance space in Santa Monica, California.

The night’s artists will include Dave Alvin, Stan Ridgway, Peter Case, I See Hawks and others.  Farris’s untimely recent death was sudden.  Only 40, she was a skilled violin, viola and cello player, and sang sweet harmonies on many records and onstage with various artists. Plus, having met her a few times, she was one of the sweetest, most sunshine-filled souls one could ever encounter.

Among the artists she worked with through the years were Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Price, Kelly Willis, Brian Wilson, Bruce Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Alejandra Escovedo, Stan Ridgway, Peter Case, Greg Dulli, I See Hawks and many others.  She performed on Late Night with David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, The Grand Old Opry and Austin City Limits. Most recently, Amy recorded and toured the United States as one of Dave Alvin’s Guilty Women.

Cover for the show is a suggested donation of $10, with all proceeds going to Farris’s charity of choice, Hungry For Music — a non-profit organization with a mission to inspire underprivileged children by bringing positive musical and creative experiences into their lives through musical instrument donations, concerts and workshops.  Visit hungryformusic.com for more about its good work.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite photo, item or note to post on the memorial bulletin board for viewing.  Items left will be put into a scrapbook for the Farris family.

For tickets, visit the McCabe’s website.
