Wake Up and Smell the Planet

Edited by Brangien Davis with Katharine Wroth

A hip, up-to-date reality check on the detrimental effects our every action has on our fragile environment — just as the title suggests, there is nothing preachy about Wake Up and Smell the Planet (from Grist Magazine). In fact, it is educational, enthusiastically funny and easy to follow. Tragic statistics paired with witty prose make it effortless for everyone to do their part to protect our planet. From personal hygiene to compassionate cooking, readers can find the type of advice that prompts them to take action one small step at a time.

A consumption centerfold, although tempting, promises “no nudies here” and gives readers ten no-brainers on how to be “Earth-friendly” and “eco-chic.” Chapters titled: “Crazy Little Thing Called Lunch,” “Gym Dandy,” “Keep It Clean, People” and “American Idle” give helpful advice in every area. A great starting point for even the most clueless individual, Grist suggests reducing, reusing and recycling, eating smarter, and enjoying all that nature has to offer.

Smart and personable, challenging yet feasible, Wake Up and Smell the Planet takes the serious subject of global warming and impending environmental doom and gloom and gives it a makeover in a language that we all can understand.

Published by Skipstone, an imprint of Mountaineers Books, this little gem deserves a spot on everyone’s nightstand. No one will dispute its value or environmentally sound practices. Printed on 100% Recycled Paper with Soy Ink, there is nothing questionable about this publisher’s practices.
