The Makers are Coming…
And Hackers and Crafters
Raise your hand if you’re full of populist rage and loathing for corporations, bankers, and all those other monolithic institutions strangling the last tattered shred of common human feeling in our country right about now. Awesome. Me, too.
Good thing the fourth annual Maker Faire is coming to town.
Put on by the folks behind Make, it’s a two-day celebration of all things DIY…and rejection of mindless consumerism. If it can be crafted, hacked, or ripped apart and reassembled into some crazy, wonderful innovation that takes the power to make out of the control of predatory entities and puts it into the hands of everyday people, then you’ll find it here — from battling demolition bots, kinetic sculptures, homemade airplanes, a fully mobile steampunk mansion, clothing swaps, to the world’s largest Mousetrap game.
This year’s theme is an answer to President Obama’s call to remake America and build a sustainable future. Time to get tinkering!
