According to numerous web reports that began with information reportedly on the website of Legendary Pictures, the new/next Superman film will be called Superman Unleashed or Superman Unleashed?, not “Man of Steel.”
A summary said: “Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to Superman Returns promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.”
Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark Kent once again? The rest of the cast coming back (please…no more Luthor!)? Bryan Singer at the helm? His film, at times, was a wonderful tribute to the Richard Donner works of Superman I and II, but in other areas, it was a mess (another Luthor land scheme from a Kryptonite island? Ugh. Lois with a kid? Double-ugh can of worms forever).
Search out Kevin’s Smith’s script treatment online. His story, based in comics, would’ve been the Superman movie that would’ve been the real blockbuster. And Jon Peters can take his spider-idea-thing and…well, you can figure that out.
And about the talk of a “darker” Superman, like Batman? No no no. Superman is not about dark. Drama, yes, but not dark. That’s why the Superman-Batman comics have often been so good, because of the character contrasts. Paging Geoff Johns and Jeph Loeb for the script on this, because, like Smith, they get it for films and are DC Comics writers too.
