Away We Go

John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph in Sam Mendes Film

Jessica Rae
Contributing Writer

From Academy Award Director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road) comes the Focus Features movie Away We Go. The first name that piqued my discerning interest was John Krasinski (The Office, and the object of a long-standing crush of mine).

The goodness kept on coming when I read the rest of the cast list included funny gal Maya Rudolph (SNL, Kath & Kim), Jeff Daniels, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Allison Janney, Chris Messina, Catherine O’Hara, Paul Schneider, Carmen Ejogo (Conan O’Brien’s pale force buddy), Jim Gaffigan, Josh Hamilton, and Melanie Lynskey.

Krasinski and Rudolph alone are enough to get me in to see this movie, but let’s not stop with the impressive cast! That would just be silly. The music in the movie is from Alexi Murdoch — someone whose ethereal-sounding music I first loved when I discovered it during an episode of Dawson’s Creek. (And I refuse to be embarrassed for having grown up with that show! Pacey and Joey forevers, man!)

What’s more, the writers for Away We Go are Dave Eggers (a heartbreaking work of staggering genius) and Vendela Vida (And Now You Can Go). If you haven’t read these books, then not only do you have a movie to be psyched about but two books to keep you busy until the movie release date in June.

I guess the only thing left to do is tell you the premise for Away We Go: “…this funny and heartfelt film follows the journey of an expectant couple as they travel the U.S. in search of the perfect place to put down roots and raise their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover ‘home’ on their own terms for the first time.
