Bollywood hip to Shakira’s moves

Oh, baby, when you move like that, you make Bollywood go mad!

Columbian singer Shakira is on the verge of lending her voice to Bollywood, according to film producer Surya Pratap. While the deal is not final, the 32-year-old Latin American singer is expected to perform a song in Pratap’s production of The Final Call. Pratap told the international media he has an agreement in principle with Shakira, with only a few minor legal details to be finalized before the deal is finalized.

Daler Mehndi, India’s King of Bhangra, will reportedly compose the track in English and Hindi, with Shakira performing the English version. According to those familiar with the deal, Shakira will record her version of the track in the United States. She may also have a small role in the film.

Spielberg’s dream works in Bollywood

Walt Disney Studios agreed to a Bollywood distribution deal with Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios, company officials announced on Monday. The distribution deal will reportedly allow Disney to market six DreamWorks live-action movies produced under its agreement with India’s Reliance BIG Entertainment.

“Disney is the birthplace of imagination and has always been as close to the worldwide audience as any company ever has,” Spielberg said.

While specific terms were not released, the deal replaces a similar deal DreamWorks reached with Universal last year. That deal fell through in recent weeks, when Spielberg’s company requested additional funds to finance movies to be made under the Reliance deal; Disney agreed to fill the void.

Similar to the agreement DreamWorks had with Universal, the Disney deal still allows for Reliance to handle distribution of the movies in India.

Company representatives said the first movie to be distributed under the deal should be distributed in theaters next year.
