Pakistan to ban Bollywood
Pakistan’s lift on a nearly four-decade ban on Indian movies may be short-lived after Indian government officials reportedly looked to its Moslem neighbors to the north after the recent terror attacks in Mumbai.
When combined with a slowing economy and dwindling fortunes within the Pakistani film industry, officials in Islamabad are working to re-institute its ban on Indian movies because they were “destroying the local film industry.”
“I personally believe Indian films should not be screened in Pakistan, and we are working to put a ban on Bollywood movies,” said Pakistan Censor Board chairperson Malik Shahnawaz Noon.
If the ban is activated, it will maintain a policy toward Indian films that commenced in 1965, shortly after a war between both countries. Since, a handful of movies leaked across India’s northwest border, such as the classic
In 2008, when the ban was lifted, about 16 Hindi films were screened throughout Pakistan. While the Pakistani government lifted the ban last year, officials are not too keen on continuing relations after India reportedly blamed individuals from Pakistan for a series of terror attacks in Mumbai on November 26th.
Bollywood goes back in time
Doc Brown traveled to times such as 1955, 2015, and the Wild West, but I doubt any of his DeLorean time machine adventures with Marty included a stop in Bollywood.
Okay, so the DeLorean was struck by lightning…again!…and a young kid finds himself back in time. Instead of wearing Calvin Klein underwear when he was awoken by his high school-aged mother, that kid is wearing Giorgio Armani silk boxers.
Oh, and he is no longer Marty McFly. In fact, we are not told what his name is just yet.
All we are told is a Bollywood production studio is reportedly set to re-make Back To The Future, starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai. Kumar is expected to play the same role as Michael J. Fox did more than 20 years ago, while Rai is cast in a role similar to Leah Thompson.
According to sources, the movie, entitled Action Replay, will begin production in February and will loosely follow the storyline of the late-’80s Hollywood trilogy starring Fox, Thompson, and Christopher Lloyd.
The original trilogy told the story of a teenager who traveled back-and-forth through time with his scientist friend and, in the process, stumbled upon earlier and later generations of his immediate family.
Hollywood remakes are no stranger to Bollywood production studios, as several mega-hits from the United States are retold in Hindi every year.
