Mario Cantone
He’s Gay, He’s Italian, He’s Campy

My stomach hurts, my mouth is numb, and my hands are raw. No, I’m not suffering from some life-threatening disease. I just came from seeing Mario Cantone at Caroline’s Comedy Club in New York City where I laughed myself silly.
For Cantone, nothing was sacred, as he poked fun at everything from how John McCain moves like an arthritic marionette, to making fun of Paula Abdul, to commenting on how Susan Lucci looks like a vagina on toothpicks. Oh yeah, he went there!
For those who might know Cantone better as Anthony Marintino, Charlotte York’s crazed wedding planner on Sex and the City, Cantone actually has an extensive resume as a comedian, having performed on The Chapelle Show, various HBO specials, and The Late Show with David Letterman. He’s even had his own one-man comedy show on Broadway, Laugh Whore, where he performed his spot-on, wickedly funny impersonations of Katherine Hepburn, Liza Minnelli, and Cher.
Believe it or not, before Cantone became a comedian, this self-proclaimed “child hater” was host of an ’80s children’s show called Steampipe Alley where he introduced Looney Tunes cartoons and even interviewed The New Kids on the Block. Can you picture Anthony Marintino doing this today?!
Lately, however, he’s been The View’s favorite comedian, giving his unique opinion on everything from the Oscars to the Daytime Emmys.
So should you ever wander into a Mario Cantone comedy routine, be prepared — he’s like a Ferrari on crack!
