Rock Publicist Gets Star

Bob Merlis to Desert Walk of Fame

Legendary longtime Warner and now independent Rock ‘N’ Roll publicist Bob Merlis will be honored with the 315th Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. The star will be unveiled at 445 North Palm Canyon Drive at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 8th. Robert Alexander, president of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, will preside over the event.

Merlis is a music industry veteran who served for almost 30 years at Warner Bros., including as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Corporate Communications.  In 2001, he started his own public relations and consulting business, M.f.h., whose clients have included ZZ Top, John Mellencamp, Etta James, ABKCO Music and Records (The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke), John Fogerty, Neil Young, The Bridge School, Experience Hendrix LLC, Dion, Walter Becker, JD Souther, Percy Sledge, Dweezil Zappa, Major Songs, and others.

Merlis is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee and is a former board member of The Blues Foundation. He also has an ongoing affiliation with The Petersen Automotive Museum, where he curated “The Cars and Guitars of Rock ‘n’ Roll” exhibition and “Encore! Cars & Guitars of Rock & Roll II.” He is the co-author, with Davin Seay, of Heart & Soul: A Celebration of Black Music Style, 1930 to 1975, a nominee for the 1998 Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Awards. As an automotive journalist, he is a frequent contributor to Automobile Magazine.

The Palm Springs Walk of Stars was founded in 1992 and honors individuals with a Golden Palm Star placed on the sidewalks of Palm Springs. Honorees must have, by their presence in the area, contributed to the charm, worldwide prominence, and name recognition of Greater Palm Springs. There are currently 314 stars in the following categories: Show Business, Literary, Pioneers/Civic, Humanitarian, Sports, and Military.
