Dare To Be Impressed

Borislav Bogdanovich: Impressions

Alice Berryman

Dare to experience amazing art from yesterday in today’s madcap world. On Saturday, November 1st, Los Angeles’s Trigg Ison Fine Art Gallery, in association with Anna and Peter Bogdanovich, presents a landmark exhibition: “Borislav Bogdanovich: Impressions.” Viewers will experience a retrospective of over 50 original paintings and drawings after a 30-year hiatus.

This artist, a Post-Impressionist/Modernist painter, was a well-known member of the foremost circle of painters in the former Yugoslavia. After an absence of over 30 years, selected work from the estate of Bogdanovich, once exhibited beside masters such as Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, and Chagall, will be shared in a new century. The exhibition features early drawings circa 1917-1939, cityscapes, still life, figurals, nudes, portraits, and self-portraits. Many works are presented in custom gold leaf frames, crafted by the skillful hands of the late Bogdanovich’s wife, Herma, a protégé of famed New York frame-maker Abe Munn.

Gallery owner Trigg Ison says, “It is such a great honor to present this historic exhibition with the artist’s songwriter daughter, Anna, and son, film director Peter Bogdanovich. It is very exciting to bring Bogdanovich’s work to public attention for the first time in almost 30 years. The show promises to be a journey into the world of a great Post-Impressionist artist who can now be recognized as one of the modern masters of the 20th century.”

Bogdanovich’s art is in private collections around the world and in estates of celebrities, including Cary Grant and James Stewart. The historical collection contains over 1,000 paintings, drawings, sketches, and studies executed in a variety of media, including oil, gouache, watercolor, mixed media, pen and ink, pastel, charcoal, and pencil. Bogdanovich captured the big picture in a small world. Come share his images. Dare to be impressed.

The exhibition, on display November 1-30, 2008, opens Saturday with a VIP reception from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment.
