ATP New York
Tickets Already On Sale for 2009

It’s only been two weeks since the My Bloody Valentine curated ATP Festival in New York, and already tickets are on sale for next year’s event. Though eager music fans still have no clue about next year’s lineup, if the next ATP Festival is anything like this year’s, they can expect the following:
WHAT: A three-day festival I often heard referred to as “summer camp for indie rockers.” Just imagine a country club charmingly stuck in the ’70s, positioned on an expansive lake. Imagine drunk canoeing, teeter-tottering, and miniature golf. There was even a run-down ice skating rink we might be able to talk them into refurbishing. And oh yeah, 30+ bands performed.
WHO: A lineup of early-to-mid ’90s rockers. As if MBV weren’t cool enough, think Built to Spill, Yo La Tengo, Thurston Moore, Low, Tortoise, Mogwai, Mercury Rev, Polvo, etc. If next year’s curators also come from the age of MBV, then we can likely anticipate a similar lineup. Don’t forget the other major “who” in this equation –- you and your hippest, richest friends. (Did I mention tickets are $225 a pop?)
WHERE: Kutsher’s Country Club in Monticello, New York, just south of the Catskills and less than a two-hour drive from NYC.
WHEN: Late September, just when the leaves are beginning to change. Bring a sweater.
HOW: Indeed, how? How do they assemble so many incredible bands? How does MBV play at such decibels without going deaf? How do those drunken hipsters manage not to topple their canoes? How do they get away with charging just $4 a beer? (Thank you, ATP.) Solve these mysteries and more by buying a ticket to next year’s ATP event…whatever it might entail.
