After Spider-Man 3 grossed a couple billion, Tobey Maguire intimated repeatedly that he was no longer interested in perpetuating the Spider-Man franchise… But, as always, you can never underestimate the value of the almighty dollar.

According to E!, there’s been somewhat of a poker game going on between Maguire and Sony, with each person trying to out-disinterest the other. First, word spread that Maguire was “locked-in” for the role, which was immediately denied by both sides. Sony sources, calling a bluff, insists that no one is “locked in.” Maguire gets scared, puts out word that he’s committed to the project, and next thing you know, another Sony rep is swearing up and down that no one other than Tobey has ever been considered…

One thing is for sure–there definitely may be another Spider-Man sequel, and it most certainly might star Tobey Maguire.
