Los Angeles Street Couture
Flashback 1973
As part of its Late Night Art series, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be showing its photographic documentary made in 1973 of the street style of Los Angeles. It is a 400-image exploration highlighting the attitude of that great era. As viewers enjoy the images projected in the mezzanine, photographers will be creating a new documentary highlighting current street fashion…although it may be a practice in irony, as the roulette wheel of contemporary fashion seems to have landed squarely in a flashback caught somewhere between 1975 and 1986.
Appropriate music will play in the background of the LACMA LA FLASH project, as well as a Los Angeles Times photography series: “Street Scenes - How Youth See the Streets: Boulevard Without Borders.” There will also be booksignings for American photographers Henry Wessel, Larry Sultan, Lauren Greenfield, Mike Slack, and Ed Panar.
The event is on September 6th from 8:00-11:00 pm. To reserve tickets, visit LACMA’s website.
