India will not be a dry country when Jon Bon Jovi arrives in Mumbai in December. Instead, more than 20,000 Indians will gear up for one wild night.
When the night is over, there is no bad medicine that will prevent Bon Jovi from living on a prayer and giving love a bad name.
For the second straight year, Live Earth will return to Mumbai — the only city the show is returning to in 2008. Last year, Live Earth was a glove-spanning concert fundraiser for the environment.
Bon Jovi will be headlining the show, scheduled for December 7th at Mumbai’s Andheri Sports Complex, it was reported over the weekend.
Joining Bon Jovi on stage will be Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Co-producing the event is Mumbai-based Wizcraft Entertainment and Live Earth producer Kevin Wall. Serving as the event’s creative director is filmmaker Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth).
Also expected to participate is Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan, as well as former Miss World and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
“Awareness activates change, and important issues deserve a global platform,” Wall told reporters. “That’s why the stage for Live Earth India will host some of the biggest artists from India to the U.S. and beyond, while we bring India to the world. And the world has a lot to learn from traditional Indian culture about sustainability.”
A concert series organized last year by Al Gore, this year’s reprisal will continue the event’s theme of promoting awareness of, and solutions for, global environmental degradation, organizers told the media.
It was reported that an estimated two billion people watched about 150 acts simultaneously performed in 11 cities around the world.
According to Wizcraft, ticket pricing, participating Indian acts, and sponsorships have yet to be concluded.
The event will be simulcast live via Star India –- News Corp’s Mumbai-based broadcasting venture –- and its Channel V music outlet throughout the country. It will also be broadcast on Star Plus (in the United Kingdom and Middle East) and Star World (throughout Asia).
Raising awareness for the “Light a Billion Lives” project, Live Earth India will promote the placement of solar-powered lanterns in one billion homes. According to the event’s producers, “Light a Billion Lives” is promoted by Rajendra Rachauri, a New Delhi-based Indian scientist who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Gore.
