Reports Thursday confirmed that Zep-like, Grammy Award-winning rock trio Wolfmother have parted ways, citing irreconcilable personal and musical differences.
Speculation had been rife about internal conflicts in the band when, earlier this week, Australian radio station Triple J began bringing into question the band’s future. A press release on that same day was issued by the group’s management stating, “The band is dealing with some internal issues at the moment. They’re hoping to resolve them in the next few weeks, but in the meantime, it just wouldn’t be appropriate for any member to be doing any interviews…” as the band had scheduled then cancelled an interview with Triple J.
However, early Thursday, their record label, Universal, issued a statement indicating that bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett would be leaving the band, with Ross tendering his resignation first, then Heskett following shortly thereafter, stating he did not want to continue as part of a changed line-up. As confirmed by their website, “…they just could not find a harmonious way to work together, and that has lead to the decisions announced today.”
With two-thirds of Wolfmother now out of the picture, vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale has vowed to continue the band and begin working on a new album, as soon as other musicians are found.
Since releasing their debut album in 2006, the band has reached international stardom with their chart topping single “Woman,” which lead to Gold-level album sales in the States and translated to millions sold over seas. The song was also a player-favorite on the hugely successful Guitar Hero II game for the Playstation 2.
