Tropic Thunders Past Dark Knight
High Gross-out Beats High Grosser

The Dark Knight, now the second highest domestic grossing film of all time, after Titantic, has finally been knocked of it’s number one perch after four weeks, by the higher gross-out film, Tropic Thunder.
The Ben Stiller directed comedy, starring Stiller, Jack Black and the Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr. - in blackface, no less - brought in $26 million over the weekend. The Batman took in $16.8 million, finally slipping to the number two spot. The Dark Knight has thus far tallied $471 million domestically and $800,000,000 worldwide.
Tropic Thunder is a broad, scatological, politically incorrect spoof on self absorbed Hollywood actors who get stranded in the jungles of Vietnam and must contend with actual danger and real violence. Downey, who’s character plays a white actor playing a black actor, also starred in the summer’s first major blockbuster, Iron Man. Tropic Thunder had already been picketed by advocates of the mentally disabled over Downey’s character lecturing Stiller’s character about not going “full retard” as an actor, but rather, going “half retard - like Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.” Tom Cruise also makes a highly acclaimed appearance in Tropic Thunder as a fat, bald, dancing studio mogul who’s morals are no better than the narco-gang who terrorize the stranded actors.
The weekend’s top grossing films are:
Tropic Thunder - $26,000,000
The Dark Knight - $16,790,000
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - $15.505,000
