Sarah Jessica Parker and Martin Scorsese have partnered to produce a new HBO television series set in post- Katrina New Orleans. Called Tremé after the famous neighborhood where many musicians live, HBO Wire creator David Simon is also a driving force behind the new show. Simon is reportedly a life-long fan of the New Orleans music scene.
Treme should provide a nice shot in the arm to New Orleans, as it digs itself out of the recent catastrophe. Says Simon: “It’s basically a post-Katrina history of the city. It will be rooted in events that everybody knows,” he told The New Orleans Times-Picayune. “What it’s not going to be is a happy stroll through David Simon’s record collection. It should not be a tourism slide show. If we do it right, it (will be) about why New Orleans matters.”
Simon says that HBO has committed to begin shooting later this year. Sarah Jessica Parker is thus far only working in a producerial capacity. Final cast is to be announced soon. In the meantime, Parker and Scorsese, along with Simon and HBO, bring a powerful, media-drawing team to New Orleans.
