Sarah Jessica Parker Artist Battle
"Project Runway"/"Top Chef" for the Art World
Art They’ve got a singing competition show. They’ve got a dancing competition show. They’ve got a cooking competition show. They’ve got a fashion competition show…
So really, can this come as any surprise?
Bravo has just announced that it has picked up Sarah Jessica Parker’s new show concept, American Artist. The project is being billed as Project Runway taking on the art world. Groundbreaking, really.
The hourlong program will pit various artists against one another, as they have to produce a piece of work in a different assigned medium each episode, say painting or sculpture, which will then be judged by a panel of experts. After all, as any art school student has learned, it’s all about keeping your art fluid and fresh; if you stick to any one thing too long, your work gets stale and your skills get dulled. Take Van Gogh for example: his mixed-media video installations and vaseline sculptures are widely seen as the precursors to Starry Night. And who can forget Rembrandt’s sculptures or his silk-screen phase?
The deal is expected to be announced on Sunday, although no word on if and when the show will actually hit the airwaves. No word on who these art experts are, although rumors are circulating that Sof Solé, the 2007 World Art Championship Gold Medalist, might be on the panel.
