How Sex Changed Dating
Sex and the City Polls

According to a survey on dating website Engage.com, Sex and the City was not only a sexy, outrageous show, it also has had an effect on the way men and women date.
Here are some interesting numbers:
As a self-proclaimed “Carrie Bradshaw-type” (well, I am a writer after all!), I have to admit Sex and the City did have its affect on my dating habits.
Before Sex and the City, I never thought dating was supposed to be fun, never wanted anything less than a committed relationship, and would never think of breaking up with a guy via e-mail (yeah, I did it, but it was a long distance relationship, I could never get in touch with him, and I knew he was cheating on me. Hey, at least it was better than Berger’s Post-It note!).
According to Trish McDermott, VP of Love (how‘s that for title!) at Engage.com, Sex and the City gave way to different types of online dating as well. “For instance, social dating communities exist (such as on Engage.com) where singles invite their friends to help them make romantic connections. They do this through dating suggestions, voting on possible dates, post-date debriefing, and setting up introductions for each other. The idea of “social dating” is a much more Sex and the City approach, compared to traditional online dating, which is decidedly not social.”
Something to think about as you embark on your days of Sex and the City countdown–this is more than a movie premiere. It’s a culmination of the institution that changed everything!
