Spring 2008 Must-Haves and Do-Withouts
As I was flipping through my March issue of Vogue (it is enormous, by the way! Beware of cranky postal workers!), I came across my first fashion love: Shoes! Prada/Miu Miu shoes, to be exact. As if they could top their Colorblock Ruffled Brogue heels, they came out with the illustrious violet velvet heels with an ornate carved heel. They remind me of a fairy tale character in a rustic woods cottage. Any article of clothing or accessories evoking fairy tale Snow White–ish images is a definite A++++ for moi, by the way!
Anywho, Prada’s full skirts are also winners, in my book. They are reminiscent of the 1950s, which I adore. Prada’s other line, Miu Miu, is my absolute favorite designer this season. The campaign with Kirsten Dunst is flawless–beautiful girly dresses with a storybook feel–a lovely way to show your girly side without looking four years old. Still modern and mature with a hint of cute.
Another must-have (if you have an unlimited budget, that is) is the silver leather envelope purse by Yves Saint Laurent for Colette. It is a clever purse shaped like an envelope, which fits absolutely nothing, but it is still gorgeous! It reminds me of a quirky Moschino piece.
Although fashion currently is pushing for garish floral prints, I don’t think I see myself wearing any of it. Frankly, I don’t want to look hobo-esque. So this season I shall stick to the classics of nautical styles, done by D & G by Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian duo has once again hit it on the mark with classic luxury meets 1950s French Riviera glamour, all in one collection. Red, white and blue stripes make a simple white dress untypical yet wearable–just beautiful.
For beauty product junkies, the Juara – Sweet Black Tea and Rice facial moisturizer is especially luxurious for fighting dry winter skin. It hydrates your skin without feeling oily—TRUST ME! I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and I can see my skin is more even-toned and supple.
Make-up seems to be going bright this season, so whip out those techno-colored bright pink lipsticks and eye shadows. Of course, don’t pile on BOTH eyes and lips with bright colors. No one likes to look like a clown… So let’s review: Bright lips, neutral eyes; bright eyes, neutral lips. I’ll be hitting Sephora soon; they have a great selection of mini lipsticks and nail polish–great for traveling and experimenting. Speaking of experimenting…is it wrong to put make-up on a three-year-old boy? Never mind…
Well, hopefully these tips will inspire you to look your fashionable best, even though everyone else wears tracksuits and flip-flops! It’s never too much to look your best, dahhhhling…
