Oh jolly my goodness! French President Nicolas Sarkozy has reportedly married gorgeous Italian super-model Carla Bruni. The duo have been trotting the globe recently as boyfriend and girlfriend, but had kept the lid on their ultimate intentions. Mr. Sarkozy said cryptically at a news conference last week, “There ees a strong chance that you weel learn about eet, once eet has already beene done.” And according to French newspaper L’Est Republicain, “Eet has now beene done! Voila! Zay are marreéd!”

The energetic Frenchman, 52, recently divorced from his estranged wife Cecilia, has been busy grappling with France’s insane “35 hour work-week” unions, as well as actively re-asserting French involvement in solving international problems. Ms. Bruni, a renowned beauty, popular singing star, and heir to a mammoth Italian tire fortune, had previously dated such high profile gentlemen as Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, and Donald Trump.

Although the French press usually gives their leaders more personal space than their British or American counterparts, Sarkozy’s life has played more openly than his more guarded predecessors. Sarkozy and Bruni had been seen recently cavorting, like young turtle doves in love, among Egypt’s mystical pyramids. However, as this modern day Napoleon and Cleopatra traveled together on state business, it presented a potential problem to conservative governments in terms of “proper” sleeping arrangements. Well, oh jolly my goodness! Now that they are properly married, that shall not present a problem anymore.
