Telecast Canceled Due to Continuing Writers Strike
Lorraine Nicholson, Miss Golden Globe 2006 The Golden Globes telecast by NBC, originally set for this Sunday, has been canceled due to the writers’ strike, as many big-name stars have already said they would not cross picket lines - literally or symbolically - either.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will announce winners, broadcast on NBC News, possibly allowing for winners - that is, some of those stars - to accept and even do pressroom interviews…that is if they still attend.
This is the first awards show of the “awards season” to go down due to the strike. In fact, writers have announced plans to picket the show if it did air.
Last week, the Screen Actors Guild announced it would honor the WGA strike by advising members not to cross picket lines, meaning no showbiz stars at the event.
It’s still possible the show may be delayed until the WGA strike ends, but many are wondering if the strike will go on all year and into 2009.
Meanwhile, no Golden Globes show Sunday could bode well for two new series that are premiering: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Comanche Moon.
