Judge Bans Live Earth Concert
Judge Cites Lack of Security
Al Gore and Brazilian TV star Xuxa A Brazilian judge dealt a deadly blow to the upcoming Live Earth concert. The show, one of several scheduled world-wide, was set to be the Latin American chapter to raise awareness for global climate change.
But the State prosecutor’s office argued that because of the Pan-American games held around the same time, the police could not assure safety at both events in the notoriously rough city of Rio de Janeiro.
Event officials insist military police assured them there would be enough security present and are scrambling to get the court to reconsider. This comes on the heels of the Istanbul show being dropped for slow ticket sales and security concerns.
The Rio show was to be the only free show in the Live Earth event. Acts like Lenny Kravitz, Macy Grey and Pharrell Williams were already set to play at the famous Copacabana Beach site.
Event organizers can still appeal with a superior court.
