William (Bruce Romans) is a man who loves having poetry in his life but doesn’t know how to write it.
He’s independently wealthy, coming from a local family of racehorse breeders, and he lives his life as he pleases: What he pleases is taking a writing course, hanging out with his friends, and bedding as many beauties as he can.
William’s life is happy enough, but aimless, until he meets Jane (Laura Allen). She is in his writing class, but not in his class…and money has nothing to do with it. It’s about life and what love and sex means to each of them. He’s intrigued that she can expose herself so nakedly in her prose but is not willing to give of herself in other ways. And so, the chase begins.
There are some good actors in the movie—the leads and Frank Langella as Professor Driskoll—but for the most part, the theatrics are pretty uneven and some border on the amateurish. Still, in all, the destination is worth the somewhat rocky journey to the finish line, if you’re a true romantic.
