Emmanuel Itier: What is Hairspray about for you both? Beyond the songs and the dancing… ?

John Travolta: Nikki has a real history with that show, right?

Nikki Blonsky: Well, yes. I had seen that show when I was 15 for my birthday, and I fell in love with the character of Tracy and I wanted to play her more than anything. So this is my ultimate dream coming true.

EI: What about the messages… is it inspiring for you, Nikki, to be part of something that says something about our society?

NB: Oh yes! I´m honored to be part of a film that is packed with so many messages. You need to spread this message of acceptance not only in Hollywood, but all over the world.

EI: How do we start the healing of accepting each other–of living truly with each other?

JT: You start with going to see this movie!

NB: And take all of your friends!

EI: The theme of the movie is also about going for your dream. You think it´s hard to dream in today´s world–to hold onto your dreams? The world is so cynical today…

JT: Yes it is, but on the other hand, sometimes you have to look at all the opportunities out there, and it´s easier if you look at all your options.

NB: And it´s hard if you make it hard.

JT: It´s about being positive mentally.

EI: What about playing a woman, John? Do you feel reborn now?

JT: It was very interesting because, when I put this suit on, everyone–men and women–wanted to feel my breasts, my bottom, and because they were not mine, I didn´t care. People were truly flirting with me and it made me realize that women have lots of power. Just being a female, you have a power. It was a new outlook for me to realize they are powerful people.

EI: Nikki, did you give John some advice about being a woman?

NB: No…

JT: She is the perfect woman!

NB: Thank you. I learned more from John, actually.
