US Summer Tour Announced
Photo courtesy squeezeofficial.com One of the most tuneful and creative pop groups of the ’80s and early ’90s is back–Squeeze has announced a summer U.S. Tour.
The band’s songs, such as “Tempted”, “Hourglass”, “Goodbye Girl”, “Black Coffee in Bed”, and “Pulling Mussels from the Shell”, remain classics, and Squeeze fans have been pining away for live shows for eight years.
The 11-date run starts at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, Massachusetts on July 31st, with shows lined up in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Atlantic City, wrapping up at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California two weeks later. A UK tour will follow.
Also look for a UK-only compilation, “Essential Squeeze”, a CD collection of 16 of the band’s best-loved songs, plus two previously unreleased songs. Reissues of their entire catalogue is set to follow, and an “Essential” DVD has been issued too, featuring the band’s promotional videos and a full live show from 1982.
Squeeze’s songwriting team of Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook was dubbed “The new Lennon and McCartney” by journalists after the release of the 1981 album, “East Side Story”. The group issued seven studio albums in all.
Joining Difford and Tilbrook onstage will be John Bentley, Squeeze’s bass player from 1978 until 1982, along with two long-time collaborators of Tilbrook—Stephen ‘Lord’ Large on keyboards and Simon Hanson on drums.
