The Doors’ concerts could be explosive, brooding and mystical–all in the same night. On July 24th, Bright Midnight Archives and Rhino Records will issue a three-disc set featuring previously unreleased performances from both the band’s early and late shows–on the first night in Boston, and the band’s final tour with Jim Morrison in 1970.

Recorded April 10, 1970, “The Doors Live in Boston” includes the rollicking challenge of “Roadhouse Blues” and the ever-hypnotic swirl of “Light My Fire”, as Morrison,
keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger were at the top of their game.
Among the other highlights are a conjuring “When The Music’s Over” and a version of Elvis Presley’s “Mystery Train”.

The liner notes include comments by the three surviving members of The Doors recalling that special night in Boston. Densmore says, “A Surgeon General’s warning should
be stickered on this recording because Jimbo is ripped!” But…he is so damn passionate and still hits all the cues with the band, so all I can say is, ‘En Vino Veritas’ (in wine is the truth).”

Manzarek adds, “What a wild Doors night. We never knew what was going to happen when the shaman went over the edge. And this night is over the edge. He’s beyond the pale, like Kurtz in ‘Apocalypse Now’. Like Dean Moriarty in ‘On The Road’.”
