A new Miles Davis re-mix project, “Evolution of the Groove”, is due this summer. The set will feature Santana, Nas, and Olu Dara (father of Nas).

Davis’s nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., is co-executive producer of the five-song EP along with Steve Berkowitz, head of A&R at Sony/Legacy. Wilburn, Jr. also co-produced the project, which adds a contemporary twist to Davis’s established classic sound, along with Charley Drayton and Pat Thrall.

The late jazz icon, who would have celebrated his 81st birthday on May 26th, continues to receive honors and tributes nearly 16 years after his death. Last year, Davis was the first jazz artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and was also posthumously inducted into the Hollywood’s RockWalk. A major biopic is also in the works, with critically acclaimed actor Don Cheadle set to portray Miles.
