After work, I used to hurry home at night,
To watch my favorite television shows.
I laughed and cried, screamed with delight,
But nothing stays the same, as everybody knows.

The times have now unfortunately changed,
They’re just not funny anymore, nor clean.
The people are so rotten, nasty and deranged,
They exemplify the bad and validate the mean.

Where are all those shows that goodness bred,
That decency, love and humor once did represent?
What we have now is hateful, twisted, dark, instead,
With sex and violence their sick perverted content.

People beautiful outside, but ugly on the inside,
They deceive, cheat, murder and betray.
Their harmful influence I can just no more abide,
So I’m tuning out at once, and intend to stay away.

I’ve cancelled service of my cable subscription,
No more shows that all these awful things promote.
For my mental health I’ve given myself a new prescription:
Turn the boob tube off! The control is not remote.
