It looks like the storm clouds are gathering for rap star and egomaniac Kanye West. After his much publicized hissy-fit over not winning Best Video for “Touch the Sky”, he is now being sued over it. Evel Kenivel, whose infamous 1974 Snake River Canyon motorcycle jump was the inspiration for the video–something he’s none too thrilled about. He’s suing for infringement of his persona. Aside from the whole rippin’ him off thing, Evel went on to say that “[the video] is the most worthless piece of crap I´ve ever seen in my life.” I know at least a few people who would agree.
A famed and beloved Italian film composer is finally getting a little recognition from the Academy, if only just in token form. Morricone, who has scored over 300 films in his 45-year career, has been nominated five times but has never taken an Oscar home. However, come February, he’ll finally have one on his shelf: he’s been slated for an honorary Oscar. Some of his more memorable scores are “Cinema Paradiso”, “A Fistful of Dollars”, “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly”, and “The Untouchables”.
Sadly, Peter Boyle, who played Ray Romano’s dad on “Everybody Loves Raymond”, passed away on Tuesday. He had a long and distinguished career in both TV and film, including roles in “Young Frankenstein” and “Taxi Driver”.
Mary J Blige, who’s having quite a good year, has just released a retrospective album. It’s called “Reflections - A Retrospective”, and it won’t blow you away if you’ve already got all her albums, but it’s a nice sampler.
